I’m sure you’ve thought of ways to use ChatGPT for job postings. Using OpenAI’s ChatGPT to optimize your job postings can help streamline and improve your hiring process. This blog highlights the 6 best ways to use ChatGPT for job postings.
ChatGPT is a large language model (LLM) powered by generative pre-trained transformers. Suppose you give it keywords and user input in different languages. In that case, ChatGPT generates new ideas to help you write compelling job postings that attract top talent. With good prompts, you can tailor your job ads to highlight the unique aspects of your role and company culture. Its human-like responses will resonate with potential candidates. (Disclaimer: we always suggest having a human fact check and make edits as needed, AI is not perfect).
According to Tidio’s AI recruitment research, almost 67% of HR professionals believe artificial intelligence offers numerous benefits to the recruitment process:
- 44% said it would free up the recruiter’s time
- 41% said AI gives them valuable recruitment insights
- 39% thought it would make their jobs easier
Let’s dive in.
1. Things to do with ChatGPT: Create Job Postings from Scratch
One of the best ways to use ChatGPT is to generate an initial draft of your job postings.
Ask ChatGPT to give you a basic job description, with an outline and keywords, and it will create the first draft with the essential job details. Some things you might ask ChatGPT to include are:
- Job title: it should reflect the actual duties of the role. Use keywords that applicants use when searching for a job. Keep your job title between 5 and 7 words.
- Company Overview: an introduction to your company, mission, values, and culture. It should depict what makes your organization a great place to work. So, you can briefly mention awards, industry recognition, or impactful projects.
- Position Overview: a summary the role’s purpose, key responsibilities, and impact on the company.
- Responsibilities and Qualifications: details of the position holder’s daily activities, including goals and KPIs. Then, expand and organize your job responsibilities clearly and concisely. Responsibilities may vary depending on the company’s size and industry.
- Compensation and Benefits: outlines the salary range, benefits package (health insurance, paid time off), and any perks (bonuses, gym memberships) to entice your target audience. You can also mention flexible work arrangements or remote work options if applicable to the position
- Application Instructions: explains how candidates should apply for the role, such as where to send the application, the specific steps for applying, and the deadline for the application
- EEO Statement: affirms your company’s commitment to equal opportunity, adhering to all relevant anti-discrimination laws
Example ChatGPT Prompts for Writing Job Descriptions:
I tried a few to show you how it might work.

2. Things to do with ChatGPT: Find and Remove Bias in your Job Postings
Creating JDs is not the only way you can use ChatGPT for job postings. ChatGPT can also scan your job postings for potentially biased language related to gender, age, or ethnicity. It can then replace any biased words with inclusive words and phrases.
Here are some examples:
Prompt: Scan the following job posting for any biased language related to gender, age, or ethnicity
Senior US University Admissions Strategy Consultant – Crimson Education
Result:
After scanning, the job description contains biased language related to educational background and geographical location:
- “Graduated from a Top 30 US University, Ivy League strongly preferred”:
Explanation: This statement could potentially exclude candidates who graduated from universities outside the US or those who attended institutions not ranked in the top 30. It may also disproportionately favor candidates from Ivy League schools.
- “At least three years of 1:1 undergraduate admissions consulting experience with 40+ students applying to top universities with excellent results.”:
Explanation: This requirement may favor candidates who have experience working with students applying to top universities, which may inadvertently exclude individuals who have experience working with different demographics or in different educational contexts.
- “Some regions include the United States and Canada, Latin America, Europe and the UK, Japan, and Singapore. If you have experience with a certain demographic, include it in your application!”
Explanation: While not inherently biased, this statement encourages candidates to highlight their experience with specific demographics, potentially leading to bias based on candidates’ previous experiences and backgrounds.
While the job description provides valuable information about the role and the company, the language used in some sections may contain bias.
Prompt: Remove any biased language in your job descriptions and replace them with more inclusive words and phrases
Result:
Those statements contain biased language and exclusivity. Here’s how you can make the job description more inclusive.
- Original: “Graduated from a Top 30 US University, Ivy League strongly preferred”
Adjusted: “Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution preferred.”
- Original: “At least three years of 1:1 undergraduate admissions consulting experience with 40+ students applying to top universities with excellent results.”
Adjusted: “Minimum of 3 years of undergraduate admissions consulting experience with a diverse range of students and universities.”
Additionally, some words and phrases can be adjusted to sound more unbiased and use plain language to make job postings more easily understandable:
- Original: “world leaders of tomorrow”
Adjusted: “leaders of tomorrow”
- Original: “exemplars”
Adjusted: “dedicated individuals”
- Original: “high school students”
Adjusted: “students”
- Original: “blueprints”
Adjusted: “plans”
- Original: “drive progress”
Adjusted: “support progress”
- Original: “caseload”
Adjusted: “workload”
- Original: “maintain expert knowledge”
Adjusted: “stay knowledgeable.”
- Original: “best-fit schools of varied competition”
Adjusted: “schools that best fit their needs.”
- Original: “Conduct formal consulting sessions with students.”
Adjusted: “Hold formal consulting sessions with students.”
- Original: “collaborate with local Sales teams”
Adjusted: “collaborate with local sales teams”
- Original: “Why work for Crimson?”
Adjusted: “Why Join Us?”
3. Things to do with ChatGPT: Build Keyword Lists for SEO
You can also use ChatGPT for job postings by asking it to generate a list of keywords, optimize your job postings, and make them visible on search engines. You can also use these keywords to advertise on Google.
So, these keywords target individuals seeking guidance and assistance with university or college admissions processes. This way, you are using ChatGPT for job postings in a way that helps attract potential candidates interested in the University Admissions Strategy Consultant role.
Prompt: Provide a list of keywords to optimize your University Admissions Strategy Consultant job posting on search engines or advertise on Google Ads
Result:
These keywords are tailored to attract individuals searching for job opportunities related to university or college admissions consulting, helping to target potential candidates for the University Admissions Strategy Consultant role:
- University admissions consultant job

- Higher education consultant career
- Admissions counseling services job opportunity

4. Things to do with ChatGPT: Change the Tone and Style of Your JDs
You can also use ChatGPT for job postings by prompting it to tailor your JD’s tone and style to suit your chosen platform. For example, if you want to share your job post on LinkedIn or advertise on this platform, you can prompt ChatGPT to generate a job ad that matches the platform’s professional tone and style. So, you are highlighting the critical aspects of the role and the company’s mission.
Prompt: Tailor the Senior US University Admissions Strategy Consultant job posting to fit LinkedIn’s tone and style

Prompt: Perform A/B testing of the two job descriptions: headlines, descriptions, and calls to action
To perform A/B testing of the two job descriptions, we’ll need to create variations for each element to test. Here’s how we can approach it:
Headlines:
Original: “Software Engineer”
Variation 1: “Join Our Dynamic Team as a Software Engineer”
Variation 2: “Exciting Opportunity: Software Engineer Position Available”
Descriptions:
Original: Use Job Description 1
Variation 1: Use Job Description 2
Variation 2: Use a slightly modified version of Job Description 2, emphasizing different aspects or using different wording.
Calls to Action:
Original: “Apply Now!”
Variation 1: “Join Us Today!”
Variation 2: “Take the Next Step in Your Career!”
After creating these variations, randomly assign visitors to your website or job posting platform to one of the three versions of each element (headlines, descriptions, calls to action). When using ChatGPT for job postings, be sure to track results. So, track click-through, application, and conversion rates to determine which version performs best.
Then, once you have collected enough data, input the information on ChatGPT. It will analyze the results and decide which combination of headlines, descriptions, and calls to action are most effective with your audience. So this is another way you can effectively use ChatGPT for job postings is optimization. You can use this information to optimize your job postings and improve their effectiveness in attracting qualified candidates.
Prompt: Analyze which version performs best based on the following data below:
Results:
Headlines:
Original: “Software Engineer Opportunity”
Click-through rate (CTR): 7%
Application rate: 3%
Conversion rate: 1.5%
Variation 1: “Exciting Software Engineer Role Available”
Click-through rate (CTR): 8%
Application rate: 3.5%
Conversion rate: 1.8%
Variation 2: “Join Our Team as a Software Engineer”
Click-through rate (CTR): 9%
Application rate: 4%
Conversion rate: 2%
Descriptions:
Since we have two variations for the description, let’s assume that both variations perform equally in terms of click-through rate, application rate, and conversion rate compared to the original description.
Calls to Action:
Original: “Apply Now!”
Click-through rate (CTR): 7%
Application rate: 3%
Conversion rate: 1.5%
Variation 1: “Apply Today and Join Us!”
Click-through rate (CTR): 8%
Application rate: 3.5%
Conversion rate: 1.8%
Variation 2: “Take Your Career to the Next Level – Apply Now!”
Click-through rate (CTR): 6%
Application rate: 2.5%
Conversion rate: 1.2%
Looking at the data, Variation 2 for headlines and calls to action performs the worst, with the lowest click-through rate, application rate, and conversion rate. Variation 1 and the original headline and call to action have similar performance, but Variation 1 has a slightly higher click-through rate, application rate, and conversion rate. Therefore, Variation 1 is the most effective in attracting potential candidates and encouraging them to apply for the software engineer role.
6. Things to do with ChatGPT: Translate your Job Postings into Another Language
Another way to use ChatGPT for job postings is to translate your JDs into different languages.
If you operate your business globally and would like to hire people worldwide to serve these international customers, it would make sense to post jobs in languages that cater to your market. So, this is where you can use ChatGPT for job postings in different languages.
For example, if 30% of your customers are from South America and speak Spanish, you must have a job posting using Spanish.
Prompt: Translate the following job posting into Spanish

Remembering ChatGPT’s Limitations:
Using ChatGPT for job postings can make crafting JDs so much easier, but always remember that:
- ChatGPT can’t fully grasp the nuances of your company’s values and culture. Therefore, completely relying on ChatGPT for job postings can be problematic. It might cause you to lose the personal touch that allows you to connect with your ideal candidates.
- You can also risk having a robotic-sounding JDs when you solely rely on ChatGPT for job postings.
- AI wouldn’t be able to completely understand your target audience like you do. Making your job posting less effective.
So, when using ChatGPT for job postings, always ask the hiring manager, existing employees in the same position, and your recruitment manager to check the final version of your JD before publishing job boards and social media.
One of the ways to use ChatGPT we recommend is to add Ongig’s Text Analyzer software to your workflow. Text Analyzer uses generative AI (ChatGPT) and automation to streamline job description creation, whether you’re starting from scratch or updating existing job descriptions. This helps remove a lot of the steps and prompts you would have to use if you using ChatGPT alone.
In the video below Ongig’s Head of Content Strategy, Heather Fenty, shows you how to use Ongig to:
- Create a job from scratch
- Optimize the content for diverse candidate engagement
- Refine the draft to reduce bias and improve readability
Heather also explains how you can update your existing job descriptions using Text Analyzer:
